What You Will Learn — Session by Session

The PRO Freight Dispatch Training runs across 6 sessions, each 4 hours long. Here is what each session covers:

Session 1 — Trucking Foundations

Learn the language and geography of the freight industry before touching a load board. This session covers standard trucking terminology, U.S. freight geography and key lanes, commercial vehicle equipment types (dry van, flatbed, reefer, step deck, lowboy), and an introduction to the trucking regulatory environment. By the end of this session you will be able to read a load posting, understand equipment requirements, and identify the major freight corridors in the United States.

Session 2 — Business Setup and Carrier Relations

This session covers the legal and operational structure behind a dispatch business. Topics include: how to set up your dispatch company (sole proprietorship vs. LLC), the dispatcher-carrier relationship and how contracts work, broker authority and MC numbers, understanding rate confirmations, and what carriers expect from a dispatcher. You will review actual dispatcher-carrier service agreements and practice reading broker rate confirmations.

Session 3 — Load Boards and Market Analysis

Hands-on training on DAT One and Truckstop, the two primary load boards in the industry. This session covers: how to search loads by lane and equipment type, reading load postings (rate, pickup/delivery windows, broker information), understanding spot market vs. contract rates, analyzing rate trends for specific lanes, and identifying the best loads for your carrier's equipment and location.

Session 4 — Dispatching Procedures and Paperwork

The operational core of the job. Topics covered: how to book a load from first contact to rate confirmation, what documentation is required at each step (BOL, rate confirmation, POD), invoice creation and tracking, managing multiple carriers and loads simultaneously, and common mistakes that result in chargebacks or missed loads. You will work through a dispatching scenario from load search to delivery confirmation.

Session 5 — Negotiation and Communication

The skills that separate average dispatchers from high earners. This session covers: rate negotiation tactics with brokers, how to handle low-ball offers, communicating with carriers about market conditions, managing difficult conversations with drivers, building long-term broker relationships, and time management for full-time dispatchers working with multiple carriers.

Practice Day — Live Simulation

The final session puts everything together. You will work through real-world dispatch scenarios using current load boards and rate data. This includes finding loads for assigned carriers, negotiating with simulated broker contacts, completing paperwork, and handling common dispatch problems (load cancellations, breakdown coverage, late pickups). Graduates receive a certificate of completion after this session.

After This Course You Will Be Able To:

- Search load boards (DAT, Truckstop) and identify profitable loads for a carrier

- Negotiate rates with brokers on behalf of carriers

- Complete all required dispatch paperwork correctly

- Set up a legal dispatch business structure

- Manage multiple carriers and loads simultaneously

- Communicate professionally with carriers, brokers, and shippers
