The cost of learning too late

An audit is not the time to discover your safety system is incomplete.

Prepare your records and safety controls before the audit. These FMCSA requirements were checked October 19, 2026.

12 monthsNew-entrant safety audit

FMCSA states that new entrants must undergo a safety audit within their first 12 months of operations.

18 monthsNew-entrant monitoring

Safety performance is monitored throughout the initial 18-month new-entrant period.

RecordsShow your safety controls

Auditors review driver and vehicle records, operating procedures and required documentation.

Corrective actionRespond to a failed audit

Follow the failure notice requirements. Failing to submit or implement required corrective actions can result in loss of FMCSA registration.

Do not wait for an audit to expose what your carrier doesn’t know.

Learn how to build the files, controls, and day-to-day compliance systems regulators expect—then choose the training level that fits your operation.

Answers before you choose training.

Where can I get trucking safety manager training online in the US?

DTC offers live online Trucking Safety & Compliance training through Zoom for carrier owners, safety staff, fleet managers and dispatchers across the US. The next cohort meets October 25, November 1, 8 and 15, 2026, noon–4 PM Central. The $999 course includes the Safety Forms & Policies Toolkit. Review the session-by-session curriculum and attendance schedule before registering.

Is safety manager training the same as a government certification?

A training course, a private professional certification and a government license are different things. DTC teaches trucking safety and compliance workflows. Do not assume that course attendance grants FMCSA approval, a government license, accreditation, or a third-party professional designation. If your employer requires a specific credential, confirm that exact requirement with the employer and contact DTC before purchasing.

What skills does a freight dispatcher need?

Start with clear communication, attention to detail and reliable follow-through. Learn to compare loads against truck location, equipment, pickup and delivery requirements, total miles including deadhead, operating costs and available driver hours. Practice broker verification, rate negotiation, rate confirmations, BOL/POD handling and updates when a trip changes. See the practical dispatcher skills guide for an example workflow.

What are the benefits of live freight dispatch training versus videos?

Live instruction lets you ask questions about a load, document or calculation and hear the reasoning in real time. Scheduled practice and assignments create a routine. Videos are useful for flexible introductions and review, but they cannot respond to your exact question as you work. Choose the format you can attend consistently; DTC’s live cohorts are not self-paced video courses.
